Get to Know our Team: Tim King
What's your role at Ant Hire Solutions?
I’m the workshop manager, responsible for the day to day running of the workshops and our great team of technicians and supervisors who are also in charge of the health and safety of our employees whilst they’re at work. I also look after the facilities and equipment used in daily work such as forklifts tolling, heating and lighting. I’m also championing a LEAN process of working, looking at ways to improve efficiency and ensuring that the right people are in the right roles.
WHAT DID YOU DO PRIOR TO YOUR ROLE HERE AT ANT HIRE SOLUTIONS?
I was the production manager at a large panel manufacturer that specialised in motor control systems for the water industry including clients such as Yorkshire Water, Scottish Water and United Utilities. We also built equipment for the Oil and Gas sectors for companies like AXON and Conoco Philips on and offshore and Chemical companies such as BASF. I was responsible for all elements of production such as planning work schedules and priorities, ensuring adequate staffing, supply of materials and provision of equipment and training.
WHAT HAS WORKING AT ANT HIRE SOLUTIONS TAUGHT YOU?
I’ve learned a lot about the processes and the differences of hire versus supply of new equipment, the importance of being prepared to turn items around quickly from simple servicing to in depth repairs. The speed that priorities can change not just daily but hourly to fulfil the customers’ requirements. In my previous role production schedules were on average 8 weeks from being classed as “In manufacture” to a position where it could be delivered to a client, things move within less than a few hours at Ant Hire Solutions.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR ROLE AT ANT HIRE SOLUTIONS?
How friendly and helpful everyone is and how the company is always wanting to improve and develop through investment and continuous improvement.
WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I have a three-year-old boy who is amazing, and it means I get to play with toys again. We like to get away camping when the weather is good too. I also have an interest in buying, selling and repairing guitars with the occasional bit of playing in between.
NAME ONE THING THAT PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU
I’m left-handed and was learning how to play the guitar left-handed for a year until I bought a new guitar and swapped to playing right-handed.
AS ANT HIRE SOLUTIONS GROWS, WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?
Still here as part of the operations team, constantly improving the way we do things but confident that if I’m not on site any procedures that are in place will keep delivering 100% of the time.
